Rice Archaeology participates in Altered Origins Festival with Rice School of Architecture

Altered Origins

workshop presentation

Part of Altered Origins festival, this workshop explored collaborative methods for 3D scanning of artefacts, with the aim of democratising the information they contain. While each country has its own set of laws and ethics surrounding cultural heritage, the digital world can play a key role in democratizing access to this heritage anywhere. In response to this complex landscape, the two-day workshop was dedicated to exploring the intersection of cultural heritage and digital innovation. Participants learned to use photogrammetry, a powerful tool that can transform private cultural collections into publicly accessible resources. Through a series of collaborative sessions, they immersed themselves in the practices and possibilities of digitisation. Drawing on various case studies, they explored methodologies for capturing, processing, and preserving artefacts in the digital realm.
